Designated Area Migration Agreements

Unlocking broader workforce access for regional Australian employers.

A regional solution to a national challenge

Designated Area Migration Agreements (DAMAs) are a special category of Labour Agreement designed specifically for regional Australia. They are negotiated between the Australian Government and regional authorities — state and territory governments, or regional bodies — to address the unique workforce challenges faced by employers outside major metropolitan centres.

DAMAs provide access to a broader range of occupations than standard visa programs, lower English language requirements, lower salary thresholds, and more flexible visa conditions. They are one of the most powerful workforce tools available to regional employers.

To access a DAMA, an employer must be located in the designated area and enter into an endorsement arrangement with the relevant regional authority. Blackwood Blue manages this entire process — from identifying the right DAMA for your location, through to individual nominations under the agreement.

Why DAMA?

Broader occupation access

DAMAs include occupations not available under standard visa programs, giving regional employers access to a wider talent pool.

Flexible salary conditions

Lower salary thresholds than standard programs, reflecting regional cost-of-living differences.

Relaxed English requirements

More flexible English language requirements for certain occupations, expanding the available talent pool.

Permanent residence pathway

Workers sponsored under a DAMA can access permanent residence pathways, supporting long-term workforce retention.

Regional economic contribution

DAMA workers must live and work in the designated region, contributing to local economies and communities.
